Act 1, Scene 1, Part 2,

Setting:

Temple of the recently deceased emperor.

Characters:

Captain, Titus Andronicus, Lucius, Tamora, Chiron, Demetrius

Events:

Titus Andronicus has become the new emperor (the new emperor).

Themes:

Revenge, torture

Quotation:

‘O cruel, irreligious piety’

‘Whose smoke, like incense, doth perfume’

Explanation:

the first quote was said by Tamora as she said to give the goth people a responsible death for the sake of respect and religion.

The second quote was said by Lucius and he said the deaths and sacrifices of which they burnt smelt good to indicate that the deaths were done.

Act 1, Scene 1, Part 1,

Setting:

Rome, The Tomb of the ANDRONICI.

Characters:

Titus Andronicus, Saturninus, Bassianus

Events:

Titus Andronicus is going to be elected to be the emperor of Rome, however, Saturninus and Bassianus (Titus Andronicus friends) are arguing about who should become emperor of Rome between them both.

Themes:

Acceptance – the action of consenting to receive or undertake something offered.

Quotation:

‘Marcus Andronicus, so I do ally’

‘In thy uprightness and integrity,’

‘And so I love and honour thee and thine,’

Explanations:

This is Saturninus and Bassianus explaining why they should become emperor, but instead they are arguing over who should become emperor. They don’t think that Titus Andronicus should be emperor, they don’t think his worthy.
